What Exactly Is A Vape?
A vape is a device that vaporizes liquid into a gas or aerosol that can then be inhaled in order to give users their desired effects or feelings. The device for vaporizing was invented by Herbert A. Gilbert in 1963 who was granted the patent in 1964. There were several improvements to the initial design of the vape through the years, however, and today there are many different types of vapes available to consumers, including mods and rebuildable atomizers.

Vaporizing is very similar to smoking cigarettes, although it’s an entirely different process than using a cigalike, it’s not directly a substitute for smoking. The reason that vaporizing is different is because vaporizers don’t contain all of the cancer-causing agents that traditional cigarettes do due to their lack of combustion. There’s no smoke and no ash, just vapor.
Vaporizing is different from smoking in that smoking burns the cannabis at a temperature hot enough to ignite it where vaporization takes place at a temperature below the point of combustion (although the temperatures are close enough that in some cases the process can be considered a form of combustion). Because there is no combustion involved with vaporization, there is also no smoke released or produced. This gives the user the benefit of purer vapor (while still getting the effects of cannabis).
In order to convert an herb or concentrate into a vapor, we are using a fundamentally different process from burning, but there are many similarities between these two processes. The ones that stand out are temperature and speed. As you’ll see, both these temperatures and speeds have an effect on the experience. When you smoke or vape, heat is generated in your chamber and then transported through your herb/concentrates by convection to the end-user. This produces only noticeable results at a certain set temperature (or potentially higher) although those results may be different from one person to another depending on factors like genetics and body chemistry.
In vaporizing, the temperature that is set the chamber is much lower. In order to create this lower temperature, the heater usually employs a coil and wick system. The coils are normally used to generate heat but these coils also alter vapor production by heating the herb/concentrate that gets blown through them. This change in temperature is what gives us different experiences when we vape or smoke cannabis.
