The new variant of Coronavirus -“Omicron” has spread to more than 25 countries since its discovery in South Africa. Several countries enforced travel bans against South Africa when the World Health Organization designated Omicron as a “Variant of Concern.” Countries began increasing testing, immunizations, and restrictions to combat the mutated variant. On December 2 Ministry of Health announced some covid testing singpore to address the discovered variant.
Now, what are these new guidelines?
We have categorized the guidelines for travelers, frontline workers, and citizens to keep you updated.
For Travellers
- All air travelers entering or crossing through Singapore must test negative for Coronavirus within two days of their arrival.
- From December 2, travelers arriving in Singapore via the vaccinated travel lanes (VTL) must undergo additional antigen rapid testing (ART) to enable early detection and isolation of cases that may be infected. These travelers must undertake self-administered ARTs at the quick test center on days 3 and 7 of their arrival.
- Travelers who visited Singapore between November 12 and November 27 and traveled in Omicron affected countries or regions 14 days before they arrived in Singapore; the ministry will execute a PCR testing exercise for them.
- Restricted the visitor arrivals from seven countries of Africa and decided to postpone the upcoming launch of three VTLs.

For workers who may come in contact with infected people
- Testing for airline crew, airport staff, and other border frontline workers will also be increased.
- From December 2, these workers will be subjected to weekly schedule routine PCR testing, while aircrew serving flights from affected nations would be subjected to a series of three PCR tests following each flight duty.
- Other staff of airports and border frontline workers will continue to go through routine testing using rapid tests.
For citizens
- For now, the relaxation on social gatherings has been suspended.
- The authority advised citizens, for now, to avoid traveling to Omicron-affected countries or regions.
- The health guidelines are nearly identical to those used to combat Coronavirus in the early days.
The new variant is still unknown about its harmfulness. The main goal of authority is to stop the spread of this mutant virus among the citizens. These guidelines will be reviewed and updated after the authority’s initial phase comes to an end. So, do check it and be up to date.
